Thank you for taking the time to explore Creative Roots Education.
In 2022, I left teaching after 23 years. It was a very difficult decision and one that I didn't make lightly. With a career change, which definitely supported my work life balance more, I really missed the part of teaching that allowed me to be creative. With time about from the classroom, as each season approached I would think about the activities that I would have done or would liked to have done with the children in my classes. Activities that do meet national requirements but that also keep creativity and enjoyment at the root of the learning process. I created Creative Roots Education slightly selfishly, as a way of enabling me to still keep my creative mind going and to still be able to 'reach' learners.
Throughout my career, I’ve always had a passion for teaching creatively — making learning meaningful, engaging, and rooted in curiosity. In my last teaching position I had the unique opportunity to teach mixed-age classes. This taught me how to design lessons and resources that worked for a wide variety of ages and abilities. The school also welcomed children with hybrid learning experiences — those who had been fully home educated or who had stepped away from mainstream schooling but wanted some time back in a classroom. Supporting these children was a privilege, and it deepened my understanding of how home education and school-based learning can complement one another.
Through Creative Roots, I want to share my experience, creativity, and passion to help parents feel supported and children feel inspired.
